Common ground

Relationships are vital in successful teams, but sometimes finding common ground on critical issues can be tricky, causing friction or a breakdown in the team relationship. The best way to rebuild quickly is to work through it, not around it.

Here are a few tips:

  • Start by finding out what you agree on. You can use these points to begin resolving any conflict.

  • Ask and encourage questions to make sure everyone understands the issue. Stay curious!

  • Keep it positive and factual, not based on opinions or emotions. Sticking to this point will resolve discussions quicker too.

  • Not everyone will always agree with everything, and that's ok.

No one gets what they want all the time, but in an environment built on listening, respect, and support, everyone can feel like they are a part of the solution.
